7 Ways to Get More “Me Time” In Your Life

During spa parties I often hear, “I am way too busy. I wish I could have you guys over every week!” Of course most people would LOVE to have a spa professional pamper them at home on a regular basis, but what is the real issue here? I probe, “How much “me time” do you set aside in general for yourself?” I hear crickets…

In our fast-paced society it can be challenging to take some time out for YOU. With work, kids, significant others, businesses to run and friends to entertain, there seems to be a never-ending list of scheduled activities throughout your day. I totally understand!

What I learned is that spending time alone not only allows you to get to know yourself better, but it brings about so much clarity and results in you being more focused and having more direction in life.

Don’t believe me? I challenge you!

Here a few ways to steal a little “me time” for yourself. It might seem hard to fit these in your day at first but, with time (and when you accept the fact that you deserve it), you’ll come to really look forward to and cherish your times of solitude.

1.      20 Minutes for Mommy. This is a wonderful rule for anyone with a busy home life. It’s a rule that allows you 20 minutes of “me time” as soon as you get home. No one can tell you about their day, ask you to sign a permission slip or hound you about what’s for dinner until after you’ve had your 20 minutes to decompress from a long day at work. You don’t have to be a mom to have this rule either. Works great for roommates and family members too!

2.      Morning Ritual. This one is tough for me because I’m trying to be more of a morning person but, for you happy early risers out there, you get to enjoy an extra hour or so to think, read or exercise before work. This process can also give you time to focus yourself before the day starts

3.      Park the Car. For the super busy folk, enjoying “me time” can be as simple as parking your car. Your job is hectic, your house is always noisy, sometimes you just need to park your car somewhere quiet and collect your thoughts. This can guarantee you some alone time to think, read or plan out your goals. Don’t forget to put your phone on silent though!

4.      Read. Adopt a reading habit and use books as a way to enjoy your own solitude. Be sure to read books that truly relax you and put your mind at ease. Sometimes when I read self-improvement or industry books it gets my mind racing and all excited and I want to start working again! Reading a good novel always does the trick to calm me down. Plus it’s a brief escape from my hectic life.

5.      Turn off the Tube. This is the BEST way to enjoy “me time” in my opinion. Television can be huge time waster and it’s easy to get caught up in reality shows and movies. Try turning the TV off and enjoying the silence of your home. Added bonus: If you have kids, turn the TV off and see what constructive and interesting things they think of to pass the time. You’ll be amazed!

6.      Five-Minute Thought Breaks. The next time you feel the urge to check your e-mail, spend five minutes just thinking instead. Focus on your current surroundings or the work you plan to do next.

7.      Stop the Music. I love listening to music. But silence can be better for focusing your thoughts. Turning off the iPod or radio for a few minutes during your commute can give you a chance to think.

Try one (or all) of these today and write back to let me know how it goes! I’d love to hear from you!

Take care of yourself & stay pampered,
